Product Description
Octaplex 500IU Injection consists of the active ingredient Human Prothrombin Complex. It is used to prevent and treat bleeding caused by deficiency of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors II and X.
It also treats bleeding that is likely to occur in patients taking medicines that block vitamin K activity (Warfarin etc.). It belongs to the category of medications called clotting factors that contain vitamin K-dependent blood clotting factors II, VII, IX and X. This medicine is only prescribed to fix the shortage in events like major bleeding or emergency surgery.
With the aid of Vitamin K, the liver synthesizes the clotting factors II, VII, IX, X, commonly referred to as the prothrombin complex. If one of these factors is deficient, the blood clotting mechanism damages the extent of requiring a substitution therapy. Clotting factor deficiency is an essential indicator of how the liver is working.
